Visual Disturbances
Evaluation of visual symptoms that may have a neurological cause, such as migraine aura, double vision, transient visual loss, or visual field changes.
Signs and symptoms to discuss with a clinician
- Double vision, visual field loss, or recurrent episodes of visual dimming
- Flashing lights, zigzags, or other visual aura with or without headache
- Vision changes accompanied by weakness, numbness, or speech difficulty
- A sudden curtain-like shadow, many new floaters, or abrupt vision loss — seek urgent eye or emergency care
Emergency symptoms: Call 911 for sudden severe symptoms, new one-sided weakness, trouble speaking, a first or prolonged seizure, severe head injury, sudden vision loss, chest pain with fainting, or any rapidly worsening condition.
